Let me paint you a picture. You’ve just downloaded Hinge, fueled by equal parts optimism and desperation. “This time,” you tell yourself, “I’ll nail it.” You spend 20 minutes crafting a bio that says “I love hiking” (you’ve hiked once, in Crocs) and pick a photo where you’re squinting suspiciously at a sunset. You hit “complete profile,” swipe right on three people, and… nothing. Cue the internal monologue: “Do I look like a serial killer? Is ‘pineapple on pizza’ a dealbreaker? WHY DID I USE THAT PHOTO?!”

As a Product Manager, my job is to turn that spiral into a success story. Because let’s face it: dating apps shouldn’t feel like taking the CAT blindfolded. So here’s how I’d tackle Hinge’s biggest problem — activation drop-off — with less existential dread and more high-fives.

Product Vision

Create a less lonely world by enabling more in-person relationships through intentional, well-matched connections. Hinge aims to be “designed to be deleted” — not because users churn, but because they succeed.

🎯 Objective

Increase D1 and D7 retention by addressing the “activation drop-off” caused by:

· Anxiety around profile creation and conversation initiation.

· Lack of confidence that the effort will pay off.

1. New Seekers (22–28)

  • Overwhelmed by writing prompts, anxious about low match rates, fear ghosting.

  • Looking for long-term connection, but disillusioned by poor matches.
